A mom asked South Africans to send her son with a rare disease some post, what happened next is a beautiful reminder that kindness still exists in the world!

Johannesburg, South Africa – A group on Facebook dedicated to Aidan Botha, a little boy with a rare disease, shared an update recently that will brighten his day.

Aidan was diagnosed at 18 months with a very rare genetic disorder called Costello Syndrome. So rare in fact that he is the 2nd diagnosis in South Africa and only around 500 people have it worldwide.

He needs abdominal scans every 3 months to screen for cancerous tumours, and heart scans as he has a thickened left ventricle wall. He was born with Culcaneo Vulgus Feet which were corrected surgically in May 2015, he also needed surgery on his spine to release a tethered cord in July 2016.

Recently Aidan and his mom Melissa Botha moved to a new home and it has a post box. Aidan is so excited that he has one, apparently, he checks it all the time in the hopes that there is something in there for him. Melissa decided to ask people to please send Aidan something in the mail so he would have his very own post.

Things like letters and postcards addressed directly to him would really make his day.

“Aidan checks our post box about 5 times a day in the hopes that someone has sent him a letter! Anybody willing to pop him some post? I’ll private message our postal address if you’re keen to send him one. You’ll make him one seriously happy boy just knowing someone wrote to him” – Melissa, Aidan’s mom.

You can contact Melissa on the Raising Aidan Facebook page for more information about sending him some fun post.

Since sharing the post requesting mail, Aiden has received a steady flow of letters and other exciting goodies. Melissa can’t keep up with him as he is at the postbox every day before she even realises. She has been waiting to get a video if him and she finally did this week when he was sent a gift.

If you sent Aiden a letter, expect a response soonest.

“We have started to receive all of your mail for Aidan this past week… and low and behold, EVERY. TIME. he’s checked the post box, I haven’t been there to video it. Just heard the shrieks of excitement as he runs through the house exclaiming that someone sent him something

So yesterday… Chloe (Aidan’s cousin), in her 6 year old logic and utterly generous heart wanting to see her cousin happy and excited, wrapped a small bottle of sparkling flavoured water for him. (Its her utmost FAVOURITE to drink). Just so he could get excited… and THIS was the result: The two of them were screaming in crazy excitement for him to open the box. It was just precious…. and allowed me to show you just how excited he gets when he receives those letters!!!!

Aidan’s tutor is so excited too… she’s set project time aside to help Aidan reply to all of them. So he gets to practice his new found skill of writing.

Thank you to EVERYONE who has sent so far. You’ve made him *THIS* excited. And for that, I am so grateful.”

Take a look at his reaction below.
