The NSPCA saved animals from a farm of horrors last year and recently shared the happy update of Black Pearl, a pitbull that was rescued!
South Africa (14 April 2020) – The NSPCA work tirelessly to save the lives of animals and serve justice. They recently shared a heartwarming update about a dog named Black Pearl that was rescued from a farm of horrors which was owned by a now-convicted animal abuser.
Pearl and many other animals were saved from the farm. This is her rescue and rehabilitation story…
“Remember that farm of horrors that belongs to convicted animal abuser, Pieter Steyn?
The NSPCA undertook an inspection at Mr Steyn’s property in December 2019 and found horrific conditions – this was shortly after Steyn was convicted for animal abuse and keeping animals in similar conditions. A wide variety of breeds, including many pit bull terriers, were being kept in cages and hidden in locked rooms filled with dog faeces, rotting meat and old bones. The dogs were fed raw, rotting chicken carcasses and many of the animals were sick and injured.”
The horror has thankfully ended, and one of the dogs rescued from the farm has left NSPCA inspectors with smiles. Black Pearl has taken to her new life with gusto and is working incredibly hard to show everyone what a brave and clever girl she is.
She has been doing training and is knocking every task out the park. As she continues to learn new skills and feel real love, she forgets the horrors of her past. She has moments where she needs to hide away, but with a loving, caring hand, she is learning to be brave.
It is the success stories like Pearl’s that inspire the NSPCA and every other animal welfare organisation to continue fighting against animal cruelty. Every animal deserves a chance, and the NSPCA ensures they get it! If you would like to support them during the lockdown, you can do so here.
