Nelly Malinga – a Restaurant manager at a local Spur – has been awarded for her heroic efforts after saving an 8 year old’s life!
Nelly Malinga was working her shift at the Lone Wolf Spur in Randpark Ridge when a customer started panicking after realising that her 8 year old son couldn’t breath.
Between the chaos and confusion, the incredible South African remained composed, kept everyone else calm and administered lifesaving techniques to the 8 year old.
The mother wrote a heartfelt letter, which has started to go viral, to thank Malinga for saving her son.
“She calmed the situation and administered CPR on him after my trying mouth to mouth would not work. He started breathing again and two gentlemen I believe were doctors and patrons at the restaurant also came to assist when they saw what was happening.
Nelly saved my son’s life and at the same time managed to keep everyone including some onlookers calm. She remained calm, professional and advised us to take him to ER at Wilgehuiwel hospital even after he started breathing on his own.”
The Resuscitation Council of Southern Africa heard about Nelly’s story and immediately contacted the Lone Wolf Spur Steak Ranch to award her with their “Resus Hero Award for 2018”.
The Resuscitation Council is a not-for-profit organisation comprised of registered instructors, other individuals and organisations with an active interest in resuscitation. They offer the prestigious award to one South African every year, who embodies why CPR is so important!
