A Mile

A unique initiative is back and inviting business leaders to ‘ride a mile in someone else’s wheels’ in an effort to raise funds and awareness for people with intellectual disabilities at Little Eden.

Edenvale, South Africa (04 February 2025) — We’re often told that gaining perspective comes from putting ourselves in the shoes of another. But what about sitting in the chair of another and riding a mile in their wheels?

In a big effort to raise funds and awareness for children and adults with profound intellectual disabilities, Edenvale-based charity Little Eden is calling on CEOs and business leaders to join in on their 8th Annual CEO Wheelchair Campaign®!

This campaign encourages leaders in the business world to spend a workday in a wheelchair, encouraging perspective adjustment, empathy and an important conversation starter.

The big goal for the charity is to raise R1.5 million in funds to support its 300 residents, of which 71% rely on wheelchairs.

To take part, those eager will need to be able and willing to make a donation (you can find out more about these details here), must participate during any weekday at work in the month of March (Intellectual Disability Month) and make sure to share the experience of their day in the chair with others!

Wheelchairs will be delivered to participants.

About Little Eden

Little Eden is a registered non-profit organisation that provides life-long care to its residents (children and adults). While the intellectual disabilities differ, every group is managed according to their personal abilities and behaviour. Those who are very young mentally receive loads of support—from being fed to being carried, changed and bathed. Residents who can take care of the basics for themselves receive support in other areas.

Little Eden has been going strong for decades, caring for 1,108 residents since 1967!

You can learn more about Little Eden here, and enquire about riding a mile in someone else’s wheels by contacting Nadine Mason at ceowc@littleeden.org. za.
