For those of you who are going through some struggles and challenges today no matter what they are, just remember that you still have the ability to rise. Pain is temporary. Your growth in success is permanent.
Johannesburg, South Africa – TK Tequila – a resident DJ in many Joburg local hotspots – doesn’t usually post good samaritan stories but felt that this one was quite personal and it really moved him.
He shared the story to his facebook, which has quickly gained traction and got many South Africans thinking about their own circumstances and how they can help each other rise.
For the past few months every time TK has been fortunate enough to travel to Fourways for a gig, he always stops past the same BP garage on William Nicol – and he always sees a guy who goes by the name of Lebo sitting at the entrance of the shop hustling for food and change.
A few months ago before his gig, he decided to buy Lebo a Pie and Pepsi. He then sat with him on the floor and asked him his story and how he ended up where he is today…
“After a somewhat lengthy and interesting conversation, I discovered that he’s a very passionate and driven person, but due to certain issues and circumstances, it’s been tough for him to pick himself up physically and emotionally.”
“So I’ve been coaching Lebo for the past few months every time I stopped past the BP, by giving him some business suggestions, tips, advice, finding out how it’s going and allowing him the opportunity to figure out for himself what his next steps should be to get himself off that floor.”
Two weekends went by, and he never saw him again.
“I must admit that I had some concerns and worries, but I finally saw him again last night and I’m proud to say that although I still saw Lebo last night hustling at that BP, he just couldn’t wait to tell me in excitement (smiles for days) that he finally gathered enough funds to build himself a table and buy some stock on some fruits and things which he now sells up the road as a street vendor.”
His Challenge, however, currently is that Metro from time to time confiscates his goods because he doesn’t have a hawkers trading license.
“So I gave him some guidance on where to apply for a trading license, and I suggested that he also adds them amazing vetkoek magwinyas to his list of things to sell, and his face just lit up all over again when I gave him that suggestion, I could really see that this guy was hungry for success and ready to make it happen.”
“My point in all of this is to just share with you guys that, if you ever feel stuck or need a purpose for doing something. Or you feel that your life just isn’t going anywhere… get up and help somebody! Make a point of it to talk to people that you would NEVER even think about talking to. You’ll be surprised by how much upliftment you receive.”
“Now I’m not suggesting that you give your hard-earned cash away to people because I believe that there’s no better lesson learnt about acquiring money than when you need to hustle to acquire it yourself, but the guidance and sharing of suggestions is totally free.”
“I felt so fulfilled and grateful after hearing Lebos’ success last night even though he still had some challenges (as with any business); it’s one step away from that floor and closer to success.”
TK ended off his post with a bit of advice to all South Africans.
