A bus driver from Roodepoort in Gauteng took a detour and made an extra stop at the local hospital to get a woman to the emergency room.

Mabasa, a Metrobus employee, had to make a quick decision on the 6 July 2017 after a woman who was on his bus had a severe asthma attack.

An asthma attack is a sudden worsening of asthma symptoms caused by the tightening of muscles around the airways (bronchospasm). During an asthma attack, the lining of the airways also becomes swollen and inflamed and thicker mucus — more than normal — is produced.

The woman who wishes to remain anonymous had difficulty breathing, the shortness of breath caused her to panic but Mabasa took control and rerouted the bus route to get her to the emergency room.

Everyone on the bus was thankful for his quick decision making.

One of the passengers, Jackie Brown, took to social media to thank Mabasa. She was worried that he would get into trouble for changing the route.

“Thank you to an awesome bus driver called Mabasa of Metrobus. With his quick thinking and without hesitation he got a lady that got a bad asthma attack on the bus to Flora hospital even tho he knew he would get onto trouble. Thank you Mabasa, you are an awesome man. Well done dude!”

But the reaction on her post, has been nothing but positive. A small act kindness, mixed with quick decision making saved someones life. Well done Mabasa and thank you.
