CANSA

Tania and Jacques De Kock have set off on a journey from Cape Town to Mpumalanga, running over 1000km along the way to raise funds for CANSA.

South Africa (30 September 2022) – Tania and Jacques De Kock have set themselves a mammoth task of running 1000km to raise funds for CANSA, they are documenting their journey online and call themselves the “Running Turtles”.

In 2016, Jacques’ father passed away from throat cancer. The couple decided they wanted to do something that would honour “Pa Billy”. They started running, and used their running to raise awareness and try to make a difference. They set their goal and set off, determined.

“We will tell the world the story and raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer! All in memory of this great, loving man.”, said the couple the day they chose to make a difference.

Since then, they have run some incredible races. They have had people join their cause, the running turtles. For 2022, the couple set the goal to run 1000km and raise R100,000. Using the platform GivenGain, they have managed to raise just under R25,000.

They are currently doing a road trip with Jacques’ mom; the couple plan to run a small distance each day. Travelling from Cape Town, they are aiming to end up at Marloth Park in Mpumalanga, just outside the Kruger National Park.

Their mascot, a turtle teddy named Arthur, is joining them along this journey. In total, they will be travelling over 5000km, making stops at some of South Africa’s most beautiful landmarks and running to make up their goal. For every R50 that is raised, they will run 1km and after they reach their destination, they will run the Meiringspoort half marathon.

They have made it to the Panorama Route and taken some time out to soak in all the beauty. This stretch of South Africa was beloved by Pa Billy, where he took his wife in 2012. Jacques, Tania and mom have been visiting all the spots Pa Billy stopped on his 2012 trip.
