Aviva-Liora La Torre-Ek, a South African expat living in Sweden, used social media to rally her international friends, raising funds for the Angel Network.

Stockholm, Sweden (13 May 2020) – Aviva-Liora La Torre-Ek, a South African expat living in Sweden, has seen the incredible work being done by the Angel Network. She has also been watching the news, learning of the hunger that has become unbearable in South Africa.

Aviva decided to raise 1000 Swedish Krona. She wanted to feed a few families, by the end of her campaign, Aviva raised enough to feed hundreds of families. Thanks to the help of the international community, Aviva will send around R52,500 (exchange rate of the day depending) to South Africa for food.

“We are honoured to work with Aviva-Liora La Torre Ek all the way from Sweden. She has the biggest heart bursting with kindness and enormous reach. Thank you for choosing us. Aviva loved our Mother’s Day appeal to sell food hampers for starving families. She set about raising R30 000 and within a matter of days had raised over R50 000. This will provide over 110 more families with food for almost 3 weeks. We are grateful beyond.” – The Angel Network

The Angel Network has collaborated with several community action groups to ensure that the food parcels make it into the hands of people that need it most. Together with “All About Food” they have made up 88700 meals for people, equating to around twelve-thousand tonnes.

If you would like to support the organisation, you can do so via their website here. You can see highlights from their food handouts and other charitable projects on Facebook here.
