Justin Sullivan, a well-known South African documentary photographer, has been shortlisted for a prestigious photography award.
Justin Sullivan was born in the small town of Eshowe, South Africa. He attended Michaelhouse in Kwa-Zulu Natal and went on to study Development & Environmental Studies at the University of Stellenbosch, majoring in Geography & Environmental Studies, Public & Development Management, and a half-major in Sociology.
Justin has been exploring photography for the past 3 years, focusing his expertise in documentary photography. He has since specialised in Cape wildfires. The focus of his work is highlighting contemporary issues in South Africa, using photography to display insights into an often unseen world.
With a passion for the environment and the outdoors, Justin plans to document wildfires around the world to raise awareness of climate change and the socio-economic impacts of these disasters.
He has been featured on Good Things Guy many times and every time, his photography speaks volumes.
Justin has recently been shortlisted in the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest. The 4th round of the contest is open to public voting and Justin needs votes to be named a winner. He has confirmed that should he win, he will donate 50% of the prize money to two important charities in Hout Bay.
“I’ve pledged to donate 50% of the prize money to 2 charities in Hout Bay (One that feeds children and the other that helps fire victims)” – Justin Sullivan
The charities are Thula Thula and the Afri-CAN charity. Thula Thula works with fire victims, helping them recover their homes and lives after a fire. The Afri-CAN charity works with children, making sure they have breakfast while at school.
