Good news stories about babies on planes are plentiful but none are as great as the story about Mavis, an SAA flight attendant and Imogen, a restless baby heading back to South Africa.
Kate Whalley-Hands was on a 15-hour flight from New York to Johannesburg with her little baby girl, Imogen. The pair were travelling solo and the trip was taking a bit of a toll.
Kate was feeling it and while the food was being served on the flight, she wasn’t sure how she would soothe her daughter and eat her dinner while it was hot. That is when a South African gem opened up her arms and took the little one off Kate’s hands for a moment.
Marvis strapped Imogen to her back with a blanket and walked around the plane continuing her duties as an SAA flight attendant. The moment truly moved Kate and she was able to finish her meal. When Mavis returned Imogen, she was fast asleep.
Kate shared the proudly South African moment on Facebook and people have absolutely loved it!
“A 15-hour flight (between 2 transits) is never an easy task for a parent travelling on their own to undertake. I had a massively proud to be South African moment yesterday when Mavis (on my SAA flight from New York to Johannesburg) took Imogen out of my arms and baleta’d her, and then carried on serving people so that I was able to eat my meal. 15 minutes later she returned to my seat with a fast asleep Immy. Mavis, thank you for being a rock star. I appreciate you”
Sooo special 💕
