Sarah Ikumu, a 16 year-old British-born Kenyan teen could be the best thing Britain’s Got Talent has every found.


Her performance on Saturday evening earned her the first golden buzzer for her performance on the show, which means she will now go straight to the live shows.

Ikumu, whose parents are Kenyan immigrants, performed a show-stopping rendition of And I Am Telling You by Jennifer Hudson.

Out of absolutely nowhere, this incredible voice builds and builds to deliver arguably the best performance of the night in Britain’s Got Talent’s first episode and became Simon’s Golden Buzzer act leaving everyone in London’s Palladium theatre and those who watched at home star struck.

When asked by Simon why she choose the song, Sarah explained she picked the song ‘because it shows my vocal ability the best’.

Simon replied: ‘One of the biggest songs in the world, and you want to take that one on. Let’s do it.’

Of course she brought the house down, and the crowd and judges were on their feet applauding her when she finished.

Sarah is currently studying for her GCSEs and is in Year 11 at school.

She’s previously won Milton Keynes Young Musician of the Year and videos of her performing on YouTube have been uploaded by ChartHouse Music, a “London-based artist development company”.

They explain that their industry experts provide “a tailor-made programme, which is focused on developing you as an artist and push your career to the next level.”
