A community came together to help a bright young lady get to China so she could complete her studies. The scholarship student needed a plane ticket and they pulled together.

Kathy Kaler shared an inspiring post about a young lady and her father. Casper Ndawana has been working as a waiter for years and Kathy has spent many evening with her family and Casper as their server. Recently Kathy struck up a conversation and learned that Caspers daughter, Lynam, was the recipient of a scholarship at a Chinese university.

She has received a scholarship to study Computer Engineering at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology. Lynam is the first person in her family to ever qualify for university and her dad was over the moon. The family had managed to pay all the non-tuition fees but they didn’t have the money for the airfare. Kathy took to Facebook to share the story and hopefully inspire others to help donate towards a ticket to China.

“Her dad, Casper paid for the pre-registration fees (on a waiters salary) and all the other fees he needed to BUT they don’t have the money for the airfare. Registration is on the 8th of September. 3 days time. She has her 4-year study visa and everything else. Except for the airline ticket. After overcoming so many hurdles that for many of us are not hurdles, this young lady with so much promise could end up not being able to get to university.”

With everything paid for, except the air ticket, people quickly started pledging money to help the family out.  The original post was shared on the 5th of September and within a few days, they managed to raise enough for a ticket.

“To everyone who donated and shared the post: When you count your blessings, KNOW with absolute certainty, that you will be counted among the blessings of Casper and his family.

The direct donations to Casper for the ticket, to the Travelleague who said they will cover the balance of the ticket, the offers of luggage, stationery and even advice for Lynam on life in China are so beautiful, heartfelt and sincere – I sit here with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat as I write this gratitude post.”

You can see his reaction below, he is so happy to be able to send his daughter to her dream education. We got a little choked up when the ticket was finally placed in Caspers’ hands. Take a look below.

Tomorrow, Lynam heads off on her greatest adventure. What an incredible story!
