Scrunchies are back in fashion and helping to employ 5 mothers who lost their jobs during the hard lockdown; business is booming and lives are changing!
Dunoon, South Africa (30 October 2020) – Barbara Lephuthing wants only the best for her children and their education is at the very top of that list. To make sure she could pay their school fees, Barbara started making scrunchies to make ends meet as she had lost her job during the hard lockdown.
It was always her dream to work in fashion. The business kicked off quickly and Barbara was able to hire three other mothers that had also lost everything during the hard lockdown.
“Hello, I’m Barbara Lephuthing. I’m 39 years old and I live in Dunoon with my beautiful kids.
I have a dream to make clothes and I believe that this is the start of my dream.
I am making handmade scrunchies in order to build a future for my kids and support my family.
Through my work, I would like to empower the people around me in my community.”
Her dream has been to empower other women. That is how Jeanette, Esther, Lerato, Rachel and Norma came to join the team. The scrunchies these ladies make are super fashionable and people are loving them! So much so that boutiques in foreign countries have been placing orders for her bespoke, trendy scrunchies.
Thanks to the help of a woman named Jess, the business has set up a proper website and even has a very trendy theme to the Instagram account.
Barbara took to her Instagram account to share the happy news that her daughter had been enrolled in grade one for 2021. She is very excited to start school but there are a few more expenses that need covering. To do this, Barbara designed a special collection of scrunchies and all the sales will go towards her daughters first year at school.
