Jan the Staffie was involved in a boating accident while on the Vaal; while everyone survived the accident, Jan went missing and his family are desperate to find him.
Gauteng, South Africa (22 November 2022) – There was a freak boating accident over the weekend where a boat went over the barrage on the Vaal river. The passengers on the boat survived the accident but sadly, Jan the Staffie could not be found. The family have started a search to try to find Jan and is asking the public to please join in.
Jan is a 2-year-old tan staffie and he means everything to the family. They are searching along the area surrounding the barrage as well as all along the river banks.
To get things sped up, the team from Healthy Hounds Missing Pet Search Team have been on the ground and in the water trying to help in every way they can. The team specialise in finding missing pets. They have highly trained K9s that work efficiently and have a great track record in finding pets.
The family have asked members of the public to please keep an eye out for Jan and if anyone with a specialised drone that has a heat/thermal sensor would like to assist, to please reach out to Healthy Hounds. Members of the public are also welcome to join the search efforts. Healthy Hounds in turn is asking for support on the water as well as with climbing gear.
“Our team was called out yesterday morning and we responded with a dual purpose search and rescue team. We deployed teams both on the ground as well as in the water to search and searched for kilometers.
Thus far we have had no luck but we will not give up! Our teams will be back out there today.
(We are still looking for climbing equipment and extra water rescue equipment so if you know of anyone who has spares, please let us know!)” – Healthy Hounds

Update: Jan’s family has offered a reward of R10,000 to find Jan.
Final Update (28/11/2022): Sadly, Jan’s body was found during the search efforts. His family are devastated by the loss but thanks everyone who helped them search for Jan.
