Erlo Brown and friends went hiking on a trail in Hermanus, one of his friends dropped their expensive binoculars and Sicelo May kept them safe until they returned.
Hermarnus, Western Cape – With hiking trails under extreme scrutiny in the Western Cape at the moment, it feels good to be able to share a good news story about one for a change.
As a way to step up safety on the Western Cape hiking trails, many have deployed security to monitor the areas. A security guard is now being praised for his efforts to not only protect hikers, but for waiting for them to return so he could return a lost item.
Sicelo May is being praised for his efforts to return a pair of binoculars to a group of hikers in Hermanus. Erlo Brown, a South African photographer, shared his experience with the Hermanus Tourism team to give thanks to Sicelo.
According to Erlo, he and friends set off for a hike and on their return, they found Sicelo waiting for them by the car. When he saw them walking back, he handed over a pair of binoculars that had been found on the ground by the car.
“Yesterday while coming back from a hike with friends in Fernkloof NR in Hermanus we saw Sicelo May, a local security guard waiting at our vehicles. He approached us with a pair of very fancy binoculars that he picked up next to one of the cars.
Apparently, one of my friends had dropped it without noticing when getting out of the car. He was patrolling his usual Voelklip route on his bicycle when he noticed the binoculars.”
Erlo explained that Sicelo must have been waiting at least two-hours because that is how long their hike had taken.
“He must have been waiting for a long time because our hike lasted more than two hours. Sicelo’s absolute commitment to service and integrity put a big smile on our faces. Thank you Sicelo for your commitment to keeping Hermanus safe and for doing it with a smile”
Many who have also had the chance to meet Sicelo on their hiking adventures confirmed he is a wonderful guy who always has a smile on his face.
