Kindness filters out into the world in the best way… and this shop assistant went out of his way to assist another person with her shopping after an operation!
Johannesburg, South Africa – Judy Wilson recently had surgery to her abdomen and knew shopping would be stressful, but she never imagined she would receive such kindness and care from a shop assistant.
She went to the BabiesRUs store at the East Rand Mall to buy a few items for her expected grandchild. The items on her list were quite large, and she knew carrying them would be impossible. She hoped just pushing the trolley with the items would be ok for her sore body.
While in the store browsing, she was approached by Raymond (surname unknown at time of publishing), who asked if she needed any help. Naturally, Judy explained what she was looking for and off Raymond went to collect the items.
“On Saturday I went shopping for some rather large items, and after choosing these items he went to the stock room to fetch it, I in the interim changed my mind, and when he returned with the original items, I told him about my change of mind. Without hesitation, he went and got what I wanted, and while waiting to pay, he went to look for a trolley because I have had abdominal surgery and would not be able to carry my purchases.”
Raymond could see that Judy was struggling and offered to walk her to her car with her purchases. He then unpacked them into her car and set off on his way.
“He returned empty-handed (no trolley in sight) but said not to worry he will carry it for me, except I had parked at an entrance nowhere near Babies R Us. We walked through the Mall to my car, and he packed it into my car.
I had bought him a Coke which he took but didn’t want the cash I offered him. After much insistence, he took the cash as well. All the way through the Mall, he kept asking if I was OK as he could see that I was in pain.
Raymond went above, and beyond the call of his duty from the instant, he came to help me. If all shoppers and shop assistants had this attitude, we would have a wonderful nation ALL the time. Thank you, Raymond, and I hope that your superiors see this and give you some recognition. Unfortunately, by the time I got to my car I was in so much pain, I forgot to take a photo of him. THANK YOU RAYMOND!”
No matter the story, people going above and beyond have really inspired the nation, and we love sharing stories like this each week. What is the best service you have ever received from a shop assistant? Let us know in the comment section.
