Single mom Carike Odendaal Heydenrych was moving house and in the chaos, her bank card went missing but she only realised while trying to buy some food.
Paarl, South Africa (24 November 2020) – Carike Odendaal Heydenrych is a single mom of three boys. Recently the family moved home and a little mistake led to a beautiful random act of kindness.
All three of the boys are in the middle of exams and with the move, the pantry was all packed up. Carike stopped at the garage so she could buy the boys snacks for their day of exams. She had a few things on the counter and opened her purse to find her bank card missing.
Standing there racking her brain, Carike remembered that the night before, her oldest was hungry so she gave him her card to stop and get something for everyone. The card must not have made its way back into her purse.
She was so embarrassed and started counting her coins to see if she had enough to cover the cost of the snacks. That is when an arm slid past her and placed a R10 note on the counter.
This is Carike’s tale of how a random act of kindness changed a very stressful time in her life!
“There certainly ARE still angels in human form out there!
Moving house, three exam writing youths and grocery cupboards that are not stocked in the old house, is reason to quickly stop at the shop before school this morning for the youngest’s lunchbox goodies for the day.
At the checkout I realise that my bank card is not in my wallet and remember the oldest two was ‘dying’ of hunger last night at 6 pm on the way to the new house with a load of moving stuff – so we quickly stopped at a store to fill their tummies and they took my bank card to buy the food.
When you live with boys you know things rarely gets put back where they were found or supposed to be.
I scratch around in my wallet for cash and say to the cashier to help the line of people behind me in the meanwhile. After a while, not finding my bank card, I ask the cashier to not ring up one item – because then I will have enough cash.
And then a female arm puts a R10 note on the counter on top of my cash! “Will that be enough?” she asks. I look up into friendly eyes and did not even try and protest and just said ‘THANK YOU, it will. You are my Friday morning angel, thank you very, very much.’
So just when this week wanted me to think there is little hope left for the human race – a lovely lady in a navy floral top came and proved me wrong and made my day.”
Carike shared her story with Good Things Guy in the hopes of inspiring others. A simple R10 changed her entire week from a stressful one, to one filled with love!
