“Thank you Chester for saving this beautiful dog. You are an angel and a hero.”
Western Cape, South Africa (13 February 2023) – The story of how Chester Kulambone saved a dog from near death is lighting up social media and giving us all the feels!
Chester, a dedicated team member at DARG, is being hailed a hero after carrying a 10-year-old dehydrated and distressed pup down a mountain back to safety.
DARG is a pro-life, non-profit organisation that rescues, cares for, sterilises and rehomes previously abused, neglected and abandoned cats and dogs. The incredible organisation provides a crucial role for the communities of Imizamo Yethu, Hangberg and the greater Hout Bay area.
On Sunday around midday, the DARG team received a phone call asking them to assist with a rescue of a dog stuck up a mountain in Hout Bay. They immediately rushed to the scene and started the arduous hike, which took over an hour in the scorching heat.
“The temperature was well over 30° Celsius; the poor dog was dehydrated, very distressed and unable to walk,” the post stated.
The owner was also incredibly stressed but had managed to get water for the pup and was trying to hydrate her when the team arrived.
Chester made the call to carry the pup all the way down the mountain on his shoulders.
“There is no doubt she would not have made it had she not been rescued.”
“Luckily, Dr Jacquie Visagie from Penzance Vet was in the village and was there to assist. The dog was cooled down and left with very relieved owners. Our guys will always step up to help an animal in need, no matter how challenging the task. You are our heroes!”
The photos of the rescue were published to the DARG Facebook page yesterday and have since gone viral, calling Chester and the team heroes for their actions.
