South Africans

South Africans come to together to make a young man’s dreams come true.

Cole Baker was born with a congenital and untreatable visual impairment. Due to his limited vision, his family was told he would never be able to live a fully normal life. The family was advised to have low expectations for Cole but he gladly defied all of them.

Cole will never be able to drive a car, see in colour or distinguish details further than an arm’s length from his face but despite the challenges, he is excelling at school.

He has recently got into the prestigious KwaZulu-Natal Midlands Youth Choir and has been offered an opportunity to travel to Wales to sing in an international choir competition. The family decided to share his story in the hopes that it would inspire others. They started crowdfunding to help pay for his trip.

It was a huge success and they managed to raise just over their goal of R30,000.00

He will be the first in his family to travel overseas. We spoke to Cole’s mother Saysha who confirmed that he is incredibly excited about the opportunity to travel.

“We would love for him to have the awesome of experience of travelling to another country. We know this will enrich his life experience and encourage his confidence to know that there are no limits to what he can do with his future.” – Saysha Baker

Cole and the choir set of on the 10-day trip on the 26th of March 2018. We will keep you updated on Cole’s adventure.
