Blake Pittaway from Project18 collaborated with the Cape of Good Hope SPCA to help families feed their pets during the lockdown.
Cape Town, South Africa (26 May 2020) – Project18, run by Blake Pittaway, recently donated 1 tonne of dog food to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA. The donation will go a long way and providing support to families facing financial strain during this pandemic.
Blake Pittaway decided to dedicate his 18th birthday in 2019 into charity. He started collecting 5l plastic bottles and taking them to a local recycling centre. In exchange, he got money back and started buying bags of dog food. Blake used to get R2.50 per kilogramme of plastic. Since starting his charity for his birthday over a year ago, Blake has moved away from recycling plastic for money and now gets fully funded thanks to generous donors.
He uses all the funds to buy much-needed dog food. Blake then drops it off at a selection of animal charities. Project18 has been very busy during the lockdown.
“Project18 collaborated with the SPCA in a bid to stop families surrendering their pets due to financial constraints.
The SPCA identified deserving families in need of assistance and delivered 1 ton of food donated by Project18 to hundreds of families in need.” – Blake Pittaway
CoGH SPCA Education Officer Bongani Giyose handed over the much-needed dog food parcels to appreciative locals in Macassar and Gugulethu. They also used the opportunity to collect and bring those animals in need of sterilisation back to the SPCA Animal Hospital for treatment, after which they will be returned to their owners.
Together with the generosity of Project18, the SPCA has managed to directly help feed animals in desperate need and provide sterilisation to prevent unwanted litters from being born. Together these acts will serve to reduce animal suffering and offer a caring hand to people in need during COVID-19.
