The Boksburg SPCA rescued 41 dogs from a breeder, showing the animals that there is love in the world and they are worth more than the number of puppies they pop out!

Boksburg, South Africa (17 February 2020) – Lapdogs are a favourite among animal lovers because of their size and general cuteness. Many people buy lapdogs from breeders to ensure they get the preferred qualities found within a specific breed.

What many people never know is that the parents of those puppies live lives that are often plagued with abuse and neglect. They never learn the touch of love, praise for being cute and face heartbreak after heartbreak as their puppies are taken from them too soon.

What people often miss is that there are hundreds of rescue organisations that are breed-specific. They take in rescue animals from all walks of life and pair them up with owners who want to adopt but also want a specific breed.

Recently the Boksburg SPCA was alerted to a breeder of lapdogs that had neglected the animals, leaving 41 animals in shocking condition. The SPCA confiscated the dogs and worked hard to treat their ailments and give them some pampering and love. The SPCA was blown away by the public support after the mammoth rescue took place and took a moment to thank everyone and share some photos of the dogs since their pamper sessions.

“It’s been a long week of snipping, cutting, bathing, brushing and pampering 41 scared and confused toy breed dogs, recently rescued from a local breeder. We are overwhelmed with the positive response received from the public.

The Boksburg SPCA would like to express how sincerely grateful we are to all the people who’ve contributed in any way towards the Yorkies and Toy Poms. Wonderful donations of pet food, blankets and money to assist with the upkeep of these animals have been pouring in. A special thank you to the two ladies who sponsored and endured the difficult task of grooming the dogs, Angela Brinkley from the Doggy Parlour and Carmel from Scruffy to Fluffy. We don’t often see kindness to animals in our line of work but this past week has shown us that there are still good people out there.

This incident is only one of many that SPCAs around the country are faced with every year. Whether its expensive toy breeds, power breeds or crossbred ‘mongrels’, no animal should matter more than another.”

You can contact the Boksburg SPCA to enquire about adoptions for the dogs as well as their puppies via Facebook here. You can also see all the photos of the animals here.
