Some goodbyes are harder than most. Last week, the SPCA Springs experienced one of those harder ones when they bid farewell to the gem that is Thandi. An assistant who truly transformed their charity shop.
Springs, South Africa (23 February 2026) – Some people join a work team and become more than just colleagues; they become the very heartbeat of the organisation.
Thandi was exactly that. An absolute blessing from the moment she joined the Springs SPCA as a charity shop assistant. A blessing, the rest of the team was so sad to bid their farewells to this week, as she follows her heart into the world of teaching.
Her farewell leaves a particularly big void, because Thandi didn’t just run the charity shop; she transformed it. With a natural talent for sales, her colleagues often joked that she could sell ice to Eskimos.
“She took it to new heights, turning it into the financial backbone of our branch. It is because of her hard work, passion, and “sales magic” that we’ve been able to keep our lights on and our accounts paid,” Springs SPCA shares.
In addition to her skill, Thandi was driven by a deep love for animals and her desire to see them thrive. It was her heart for the well-being of vulnerable furbabies that naturally drew people.

This goodbye was one of those very difficult ones.
“While our shop won’t feel quite the same without your energy, we know those future students of yours are the luckiest kids in the world to have you as their teacher. Thank you for being our champion, our fundraiser, and our friend. We will miss you more than words can say!”
The announcement of her farewell garnered tons of love online, with many people singing Thandi’s praises and wishing her well.
“All the blessings along your way, my twin sister. I’m so very proud of you. Your legacy will always remain intact. Thank you for representing the family. Love you lots, sis,” commented Ngonidzashe Steven Bae.
“Really going to miss your smile as I walk into the shop. Best of luck in your new career. They are fortunate to have you,” said Tracy-Anne Gorman Walton.
“Go well, Thandi. Now you can educate many children to love and respect animals. Sometimes a greater calling is out there, to fulfil a further purpose,” wrote Juliet McCree.
We join her colleagues and friends in wishing Thandi every success as she steps into the classroom. Her passion for helping others is sure to make her a wonderful teacher.
