Derine Louw started a crowdfund for her colleague Adele Bezuidenhout who tragically lost her leg in an accident; Adele brings a constant cheerfulness to the office.
Cape Town, South Africa (30 June 2022) – Derine Louw has worked with Adele Bezuidenhout over the last two years. Her constant joy and smiles have been a great tonic to the office over that period. After Adele survived a freak accident, losing her leg in the process, she never gave up her joyful spark.
The accident took place on the 10th of March this year and changed Adele’s life forever. She spent 38 days in ICU, 18 days in the general ward and then two weeks at a rehabilitation facility. Despite losing her leg, her outlook on life never changed.
She was discharged from care and walked, aided by crutches, into her life now adapted.
“She courageously walked out of the hospital on crutches, ready to face this daunting new life challenge. Never have I heard her complain, lose her sense of humour, or love and passion for life. I’ve only heard words of purpose, commitment to the process, and finding meaning in the gift of still being alive.
I’ve known Adele for a little over two years. As one of our receptionists, she makes a massive difference in our patients’ lives. They often comment on her soft heart and kind, gentle manner. Adele also has an inextinguishable love for nature.” – Derine Louw
Derine has been moved by Adele, explaining how her face lights up when talking about her weekends. She spends them along the Cape coastline, taking in the views and walking on the beach.
“On Mondays, when you’d ask Adele about her weekend – her face would light up, and she told stories of beautiful views along the coast, strolling on the beach, or walking amongst the fynbos with her family.
The goal for the fund is to assist in covering medical expenses and ultimately pave the way towards getting a prosthesis which will just move so much easier!
One step, one rand, dollar, pound, whatever currency, at a time – I know we can achieve this goal!! It takes many steps to make a miracle, but it has to start with one!”
“Adele, your fighting spirit has made a difference in many peoples’ lives!! I cannot wait to celebrate your journey by walking on the beach with you!!”
The money raised will ease Adele into her new life and afford her a prosthesis which will make it easier for her to walk at the beach.
Derine and her colleagues started the crowdfund in the hopes of raising the money needed to cover Adele’s additional medical costs and the fitting of a prosthetic leg. If you would like to contribute, you can do so here.
