The Naruna Estate Residents Association is crowdfunding to continue their Sunday feeding programme that supports state pensioners and single moms.

Plumstead, South Africa (07 October 2020) – The Naruna Estate Residents Association (NERA), a registered NPO, is currently facing many obstacles but the most dire is keeping their state pensioners and single mothers fed. The NPO has been supporting their residents throughout the lockdown.

“We formed this association for all residents of Naruna Estate in Plumstead, due to the fact that WC government and housing are wanting the current residents out, so places can be upgraded for higher-income earners. The battle is ongoing.

The majority of our residents is elderly, single mother’s and due to Covid19, many of our residents have become unemployed.

Our deputy chairperson, Ms Beverley Strong, who is a cancer survivor and who fosters her 2 grandchildren, took it upon herself to start cooking a meal for NERA residents as well as the homeless people who sleep outside the stores in Southfield and under the bridge in Fairways.”

They have decided the best way forward to continue providing the 150 meals each weekend is to get help from the greater South African community.

“We have created a BackaBuddy Campaign to try and bring in funds, to continue our work. We feed approximately 150 people every Sunday. We can’t do this without the help of others.

We are appealing to all business and individuals to donate food, chicken, fruit and vegatables, or to donate on our BackaBuddy link https://www.backabuddy.co.za/nera-fundraiser

The money raised will be used to allow us to continue our work, and to give our people a Christmas they deserve.

Beverley Strong can be contacted on 074 341 8252 and I (Natasha Pivalizza) can be contacted on 074 860 2730

Only Together We Can”

You can support their cause by contacting either Beverley or Natasha or by donating here.
