Sheehama Onesmus (42) recently fell victim to a crime when his vehicle was stolen on 21 October 2018 outside his house in Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay.
Sheehama started Sky Transport just over two years ago, a small transport business that supports his partner, Sue Anne (29), his 2 daughters, Saskia (13), Ningeni (6) and his son, Tulonga (1). His truck, the only one he has for his business, was stolen outside Hout Bay’s informal settlement, Imizamo Yethu.
After receiving a tip-off, his vehicle, which he uses for work, was eventually found in Gugulethu, but to his dismay, his vehicle was stripped, burnt to a crisp and then abandoned.
Hoping to restore Sheehama’s livelihood and get him back on his feet, fellow Capetonian, Pierre De Wet (39), who owns Anything Goes Furniture, decided to do something special for his friend and transport provider.
“Sheehama is more than just the guy with a truck who moves furniture, he has become my friend and has really helped me grow my business. This week his livelihood was stripped from him when his truck was stolen, and with it went his business and means of looking after his family. ” – says De Wet
Pierre set up a campaign on donations based crowdfunding platform, BackaBuddy to raise R60 000 to help get Sheehama’s business back on track.
“Sheehama is such a hard worker and has a true entrepreneurial spirit. Through his dedication, he built a strong small business from scratch. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to lose my whole business overnight” – says De Wet
The campaign for a new vehicle went live on 23 October 2018 and has thus far raised R39 992.84 with contributions from 37 donors.
“We need more entrepreneurs in our country and we need more people willing to stand up for others in their time of need. Sheehama is a kind-hearted person who never asks for anything. I hope the public will back my buddy who was who was already doing it for himself but then lost it all overnight.
This campaign’s success proves that together we are better. This kind deed will change his life for the better, not only providing him with an income once more but also restored his faith in humanity.
