When a Ladles of Love volunteer paid a small kindness to a stranger awaiting a train, that kindness ended up being paid back tenfold for far more people than just the volunteer!
Cape Town, South Africa (10 January 2025) — Ladles of Love volunteer Beatrice was in the midst of a mundane moment. Waiting for a train that she learned would be delayed, she noticed someone who seemingly didn’t know the train would be late. A man with a white cane, Beatrice considered that the stranger might be visually impaired and hence unable to check the train schedule with as much ease.
“I felt compelled to share the news of the delay with him, and he was so grateful,’ Beatrice explains.
Thereafter, the two began chatting away until the train arrived. The volunteer was invited to continue their conversation in first class with her new friend—something she certainly hadn’t been expecting when she first got to the station.
While the conversation continued and the train trudged on, Ladles of Love entered the chat. A feeding-focused organisation responsible for many full tummies and good news stories, Beatrice was proud to have served the Dignity Kitchen in Cape Town.
“I shared about Ladles of Love and how we provide daily nutrition to thousands of children in need,” she said.
To her great surprise, her new friend revealed as Beat asked Beatrice if she would make a donation on his behalf. This was a donation of 150 Swiss Francs, which is more than R3,115, and an amount that can make 623 meals possible.
“His kindness brought tears to my eyes and has left a lasting impression on me,” reflects Beatrice.
All of this from a sweet act of consideration from Beatrice.
It’s true that kindness begets kindness. And truer still that sometimes the kindness returned to us comes in the most unexpected ways.
