An off-duty SAPS Sergeant, known for his selflessness, is leading an epic community effort to help two women after a shack fire left them with nothing but the clothes on their backs:
Welbekend, South Africa (22 November 2024) — In a heartwarming story that’s giving triumph points against tragedy, a SAPS sergeant is leading an epic effort to help two young women following a shack fire in which they suffered great loss.
The fire devastated people in Welbekend—a rural area in Gauteng. Two young women were among those hugely impacted and are said to have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
However, off-duty SAPS Sgt William Msiza was not about to let their situation remain in darkness. Instead, he decided to rally as much light as possible for the women; uniting the community in their favour!
Known for his selfless heart, the sergeant sprang into action as soon as he heard about the tragedy.
He called on his community, Born to Be Free NPC and Trauma Support SA to organise help wherever it was needed. Along with a team of volunteers and support workers, Sargent Msiza made sure the women would not feel alone in their darkest hour.
The very next day, an abundance of donations, including food, clothes and other tokens of kindness, began flowing in for the women. The pair broke down in tears as they welcomed all the compassion, overwhelmed by love from strangers who had carved out the time and effort to change the trajectory of their lives.
“This is a powerful reminder of the strength of community and how small acts of kindness can make a world of difference,” shared Jill Watson of Born to Free NPC.
“The danger of shack fires is all all too real for those living in such conditions, and today, these two young women know that they are not alone.”
