Will Ronquest-Ross is an eight-year-old with a love and passion for surfing; he loves it so much he wants to share it, so he crowdfunded to do more.

Cape Town, South Africa – Will Ronquest-Ross is an avid surfer, his favourite place in the world is inside the tube of a wave, the water cascading down around him as he surfs through it.

Will wanted to share that love of surfing with underprivileged children. He approached the Cape Town School of Surfing and asked them to give him a significant discount for a surf lesson for ten children. The surf school agreed and offered Will a 25% discount.

With the discount, he was able to come up with an exact amount so he could raise money. The hopeful eight-year-old set up a crowdfund on BackaBuddy in March, and his goal was to raise R2,000.00.

“I am an 8-year-old surfer from Hout Bay. I love the feeling of being in a tube and I wish that other children could have a chance to experience that feeling too. Especially the children in Mandela Park (Imizamo Yethu). It would be fun if there were more children who could surf.

I have asked the Cape Town School of Surfing to give me a 25% discount on lessons, so with your support, we could sponsor a lesson for 10 children. I have already raised R80 from my neighbours, which is a start.”

Within twelve days Will had managed to raise double his goal, meaning he could do so much more for the children Imizamo Yethu.

Thanks to Will’s passion for surfing, he was able to help spread that joy to children who would never typically have an opportunity like that.

BackaBuddy paid all the funds to the Cape Town School of Surf directly.
