Miss South Africa, Tamaryn Green, has been crowned as runner-up at Miss Universe pageant… but she will always be our queen.
Tamaryn Green (born 19 August 1994) is a South African model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss South Africa 2018.
The 24-year-old represented South Africa in Sunday night’s pageant, making it all the way to the top 3, answering questions about refugees and her life growing up in the Western Cape and and became the first runner-up in the competition.
“I can’t put into words the overwhelming gratitude I feel today. South Africa, I could feel your love and support on the Miss Universe stage and I am so thankful for you. I am so proud to be South African.”
Born in Worcester, the Green family moved to Paarl when Tamaryn was 9-years-old. Thanks to the drive and encouragement of her educator parents, Tamaryn did well in matric and worked hard to pursue her medical degree at the University of Cape Town. The middle child of the family, Tamaryn is very family orientated and lists spending time at home as one of her favourite things to do.
Tamaryn was initially announced as one of the 28 regional qualifiers for Miss South Africa 2018 in April 2018. She later was able to advance to the televised competition as one of the top twelve competitors. During the final competition, Green advanced into the top five and then into the top two, where she was crowned Miss Universe South Africa 2018, becoming the South African representative in Miss Universe 2018.
The incredible South African will use her role as Miss Universe South Africa runner up to encourage young women to believe that they are beautiful just the way they are. Tamaryn understands that to be a true representation of the Confidently Beautiful woman Miss Universe is, you need to stand out like a shooting star.
Her goal leading up to Miss Universe was to show that there is place for all of us to make a difference, and a role for all of us to embrace our unique strengths.
