Tannie Nakki has celebrated two big birthdays in Lockdown and while she misses her family, she urges everyone to stay calm.

Pretoria, South Africa (01 July 2021) – On 1 July 2020 Tannie Nakki Barnard of Ons Tuis Riviera in Pretoria celebrated her 100th birthday with these wise words: stay calm! In the midst of the uncertain circumstances the world was facing at the time, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, her advice was embraced by everyone. Little did Tannie Nakki or her fellow South Africans know they would still have to endure the same fears and sadness on her next birthday.

“Turning a 101-years old is a momentous milestone, an inspiration and a beacon of hope for everyone considering the realities we are facing today,” says Heleen van As, spokesperson for Ons Tuis.

“To celebrate your 101st birthday and still be able to look back at an eventful life is a great privilege. Raising your own children, to experience them being parents and seeing your grandchildren growp up truly is a gift from God‟s hand. May her magnificent birthday tomorrow remind everyone anew that God will never forsake you. He will always be your guide, even in the darkest shadows of life,” says Van As.

Tannie Nakki (Anna Johanna Francia Barnard) has been a resident of Ons Tuis Riviera since April 2014. She and her husband, Japie, have been married for 38 years and previously resided in Mountain View, Pretoria. She is blessed with three children (one passed on), three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

“On behalf of Ons Tuis, we would like to congratulate her on this remarkable birthday. We also want to honour her exceptional humanity and thank her for reminding us daily that your life can only be meaningful if it is anchored in God. At 101 she is a true inspiration; her life is an example of the 101-manual each of us can aspire to,” concludes Van As.
