A charity run in the Netherlands for South African children, found out about a teacher whose students were without warm clothes. This is what they did for them.
Swellendam, South Africa (19 June 2020) – A teacher in Swellendam was so happy to have her students back in class. She sat with anticipation waiting for the school bell to ring and for them to line up outside the classroom. As she watched, she saw a student lining up with no shoes on.
She looked closer and saw some children had no socks. It was freezing cold and she could see the redness of their cold little toes. The teacher removed her scarf and wrapped the feet of the child who had no shoes on.
The teacher then reached out for help. Retha, the ambassador for the Support Orphans of Southern Africa (SOSA), in Cape Town, was contacted for help. SOSA was set up by proudly South African JP Skinner and his Dutch wife Renate Vink in 2006. They often fly home to bring clothing donations to the communities and orphans they support. Since the lockdown, they have had to make other arrangements.
A Good Things Guy reader heard the story and asked for help to reach more people.
“There is a desperate need for any clothing for children and I decided to assist. If you have anything or know anyone who can help, please do. Retha’s number is 083 407 5004. Please let her know if you can help in any way.
You can drop off new or 2nd hand clothes at 56 Keerom Street in City Centre Cape Town. Or at Retha in the Northern Suburbs. She can also collect.
We will send Retha a voucher so she can purchase socks, scarves and beanies. Unfortunately, with no regular flights between Amsterdam and Cape Town, we can’t send clothes at the moment.” – Renate Vink
Retha will deliver all the warm clothing to the teacher in Swellendam when she has collected enough for the class. If you would like to assist, you can reach out to Retha.
You can find out more about SOSA via their Facebook page.
