Ambrose Bezuidenhout started his small business just before the lockdown hit; he had only a bucket and some rags; today he has a thriving little business that is an inspiration to all!

Yzerfontein, South Africa (04 May 2022) – 13-year-old Ambrose Bezuidenhout from Yzerfontein in the Western Cape has left people in awe of his business savvy and drive to succeed.

Ambrose has a mobile car wash business. Using his bicycle, he drives through the town, home to around 1200 people, and washes cars on the go.

He has a clever set-up, with everything he needs placed in a trailer behind his bicycle. When he started, he only had a bucket and rags. During the lockdown, he was the lucky winner of the bicycle from his local SPAR.

“There was a competition at the Yzerfontein Spar where you had to buy a cool drink and put your name and number on it, then on the last day of the competition, I threw all my tickets into the box to make sure mine was on the top. A few months later, I got a call from Spar, saying I won, and so we went to fetch it.”

Ambrose says his father taught him to ride a bicycle when he was three. They used the bicycle Ambrose learned to ride on, to build his first handy trailer. Using his profits, Ambrose was able to buy himself a proper trailer as well as a vacuum and pressure washer which he uses for his cleaning jobs.

His family also invested in his dream, with one uncle donating the cleaning products needed and the other making his advertising sign on his bike.

A Facebook post by Braan van Tubbergh, about his business, has slowly been shared around the social media site, with commenters commending his idea and passion for bettering himself through business.

People have been wishing him every success in his endeavours. We managed to chat with Ambrose to find out more about his business and his dreams for the future.

“For the future, I hope that I can expand my business into something much bigger, I’d like to have different businesses in different industries, especially in the space and transportation industry, but for now I am using my time now to help me get up there.”

Ambrose shares that Elon Musk is one of his inspirations in life, but the person who is his biggest inspiration would be his dad.

“There’s quite a lot of people supporting me in Yzerfontein, I use to do around 5 cars a week in the beginning but now I average 15-20 a week, I got 25 cars in Easter weekend alone, but I mean you can never really get enough, so I try and get more and more clients every day, in total more or less I have 150 clients on my what’s app contact list.

I offer my services throughout the week after school if I don’t have homework, and through weekends or holidays, from 7 in the morning to 7 at night”

So should you find yourself up the West Coast and looking for a car wash, head to Yzerfontein and invest in a young man’s dream.
