The Texas Governor is the gift that keeps on giving as he continues to tweet the wrong information about South Africa… but it’s South Africans replying to him that is keeping us all entertained.
Global (30 November 2021) – South Africans are hilariously replying to Texas Governor Greg Abbott on tweets where he seems to be confusing our country with South America… or something.
Abbott was born in Texas and has been the Governor of the State since the 20th of January 2015, but a recent Twitter conversation that he started makes it look like he hasn’t really ever left the State – or hasn’t looked at a map in a while.
The Governor first tweeted about South Africa after Omicron – the new strain of COVID-19 found by South African scientists – made news headlines and many countries, including the USA, put travel bans on South Africans. He was using the travel restrictions to hammer Biden’s administration on immigration.
The confusing tweet suggested that South Africans were crossing the USA border illegally at a very concerning rate, but according to border apprehension numbers provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a total of 62 South African nationals were arrested while crossing the southwest border in the last 13 years, making up 0.0009% of the 6,823,315 border apprehensions over that time period.
So not “that concerning” then… also, we are on different continents.
Here’s the tweet that is going viral:
“Biden banned travel from South Africa because of the new Covid variant. Immigrants have recently been apprehended crossing our border illegally from South Africa. Biden is doing nothing to stop immigrants from South Africa entering illegally. Pure politics and hypocrisy.”
And thousands of South Africans decided to hilariously school the Governor on where South Africa actually is and how difficult it would be to cross the Texas border.
Do you even know where South Africa is? 😂😂😂😂😂

This reminds me of that Miss Wherever that was asked what she thinks about Americans not being able to point out America on a world map and she said the solution is to educate South Africans 🥲

Tsek! If us South Africans COULD swim like that, best believe you’d give us scholarships when we arrived. You Americans love to poach talent.
Also. Just, read a map, or a cereal box. Something.

Even Americans were trying to help the Governor out.
Anyone that has the stamina and strength to swim across the Atlantic is a huge asset to our society. We should welcome them with open arms. They should immediately be offered jobs in the military or the NFL.

So is covid dangerous now? Interesting. And bravo to those people traveling almost 9000 miles to sneak across the border, just to give you a talking point! pic.twitter.com/7QUBGvgXz6

A simple wall between Texas and South Africa would seem the wisest move.

But it seems he learnt nothing as Abbott took to Twitter again this morning to give the world this gem, pointing out that apparently 50 illegal immigrants from “South African countries” were aprehended in the last year.
Read his tweet below:
“Over 50 illegal immigrants from South Africa and other South African countries under the Biden travel ban have been apprehended by CBP this year, with 18 being apprehended this month alone. Biden’s open border policies must end.”
And the replies are just as funny.

You got flamed about this a day ago and now you’re coming back with the hard facts that a whopping *50* people from South Africa have most likely overstayed a visa. Lololol

This is a developing story as it seems the Governor is not going to stop tweeting anytime soon. And we will update you when he does.
