There’s an advent calendar idea that we’re absolutely loving, and it’s all about kindness! The Random Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar is all about ‘unwrapping’ a little way to be kind each day.

South Africa (03 December 2024) — It’s true that advent calendars offer some of the festive season’s best gift options. There are traditional chocolate advent calendars for the chocoholic in your life, beauty advent calendars boasting the best-of-the-best necessary for any makeup station and even homemade advents that people customise for their loved ones.

Indeed, advent calendars make Christmas Day anticipation all the more sweeter. But what about an advent calendar that could make the festive season that much more wonderful for others?

Recently, Kindness Can started their own advent calendar initiative, and we absolutely love it. Dubbed the Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar, it incorporates different ways to spread kindness this December, with each new idea shared daily as if we are unwrapping various ways to be kind!

On 1 December, the team shared the first order of business on the Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar: ‘Find a cause close to your heart & volunteer’. 2 December called for paying someone a genuine compliment. Today’s unwrapping (3 December) is ‘Help someone with something’.

Imagine if everyone who reads this took these ideas seriously and acted upon them. Just think about how many more compliments would go around, how many volunteers would sign up and how much more help there’d be to go around.

Perhaps as we pop open our chocolate of the day on our own advent calendars, we might consider something kind we could do to make someone else’s day a little more lovely.

You can follow the Random Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar here, or challenge yourself to create your own!

Find an empty jar, fill it up with ideas of ways you’d like to be kinder until Christmas and shake the jar so that each day is a random pick. You can draw inspiration from:
