An incredible outpouring of support for Toby’s fundraiser has resulted in the best birthday gift. Thanks to a chief inspector and a community of animal lovers, Toby the rescue dog now has a fighting chance at a new life:
Cape Town, South Africa (14 May 2024)—Just yesterday, Good Things Guy reported on SPCA Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse’s birthday fundraiser for Toby, the dog who has survived the unimaginable. Today, we’re over the moon to report that not only has Toby’s fundraiser surpassed its goal of R45 000, but also that (in the space of a day) the total funds raised thus far are nearly double the initial target!
In case you missed the story on Chief Inspector Jaco and Toby, Toby is a dog who was recently rescued from worse than poor conditions by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA. It’s alleged that Toby was starved as punishment, and his condition is said to be so severe, he requires blood transfusions, medical intervention and a special diet for him to have a fighting chance at a new life.
Deciding to put his birthday to good use as he does every year, Chief Inspector Jaco initiated Toby’s fundraiser. This would not only raise the lifeline funds for Toby’s care, but also support for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
Jaco shares that last year, he was able to raise over R45000 thanks to his birthday gift of good.
“[The fundraiser] fuelled many successful rescue operations and recovery stories,” said the Chief Inspector, adding that he hoped this year would match or surpass that amount.
Well, Jaco’s birthday wish has certainly come true, and hope for Toby has never been more tangible.
When GTG reported on the story yesterday, the funds raised were sitting at R55100. Today, that number is R89 550.
Thanks to the kindness of the animal lovers everywhere, Toby has a real shot, as do so many other animals in the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s care, in what might be the best birthday gift ever.
