The idea is simple: give back to the homeless, get a golden ticket and get a discount on some of Cape Town’s best adventures!
Cape Town, South Africa (15 May, 2023)— The Secret Love Project has launched the LOVEconomy with Golden Tickets, helping people in need and offering epic adventures all in one ticket.
Before stepping into Willy Wonka mode, leaders at the Secret Love Project (SLP) asked an important question:
“Can capitalism and socialism be merged into a new form of economy that serves our communities better? Can self-interest be harnessed to do good rather than create greed?”
It’s the same question that inspired SLP’s LOVEconomy in the first place; a system where people who support those who need it the most (like the homeless) receive love in return via rainbow heart stickers.
Behind the Beloved Heart Stickers
If you’re from the Mother City, you’ll know these stickers are everywhere. Cars, cellphone covers, laptops, you name it. However, they’re more than a nod to people who have done their good deed for the day. More often than not, they’re hope in heart form, a reminder of the good we can all do to fill parts of South Africa with as much love and support as possible, for people like Clive Booysen and all the other sellers turning their lives around.
Now, The Secret Love Project has launched the first phase of The LOVEconomy with new Golden Tickets.
How The Golden Tickets Work
The Golden Tickets (like the heart stickers) are rewards for supporting the homeless. But, kicking things up a notch, they double as discount cards for some of the best adventures in Cape Town.
You can only get these Golden Tickets from the homeless community when you buy their heart stickers. That way, when you support the homeless, you can also support local businesses and tourism too.
“Everyone is helping everyone, and everyone is benefiting more by helping each other rather than by going it alone and that’s the spirit of The LOVEconomy. Helping others also benefits you! It’s a very simple idea to make sharing and giving self-sustaining,” shares the Secret Love Project.
On a food for thought note, SLP shares:
“The problem with both capitalism and communism is that they fail communities for the same reason: self-interest. Capitalism exploits self-interest to the detriment of others; communism rejects self-interest to the detriment of the self. And everyone wants to live their best lives, not just to survive but to thrive. So if we recognise that self-interest is an immutable life force that drives survival and prosperity alike, then maybe if we can harness it correctly we might build better communities where both the individual and our communities thrive together.”
Hearts of Gold Build a Community
The concept inspires growing individually and as a community. Thanks to the Golden Tickets, SLP sellers will make more money allowing them to afford food, clothing shelter and make their way to job opportunities.
