Professor Thuli Madonsela received a prestigious award from the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for her contribution to South Africa’s democracy.
The president of Germany has awarded Professor Thuli Madonsela with the “Great Order of Merit” for her contribution to Democracy during her time as the Public Prosecutor.
The award was unexpected on Prof. Madonsela’s side, she tweeted a selfie of herself on her way to the ceromony at the German Ambassador’s home saying, “On the way to receiving another unexpected award. #Gratitude”.
The President thanked her for teaching everyone how resilient a democracy actually when one determinedly defends its principles. They called her an example to all democrats.
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was on a three-day visit to South Africa. Before meeting Madonsela, he held talks with President Cyril Ramaphosa during which he praised the government for tackling corruption and supporting efforts to uncover the state capture scandal.
