spar hero of the week

Somerset West, South Africa (27 June 2024) — A typed-up note stood boldly among a sea of colourful, knitted and warm blankets and crafts. It captured the reason why two very special frail-care residents, Joan Moen and Edith Hofmeyr, spent months knitting tirelessly for the little ones at the Heartlands Baby Sanctuary, sharing (in Afrikaans originally) that they knew love as children, and with this gift, they believe less fortunate little ones will feel their love.

Residents of the Helderberg Society for the Aged’s (HSFA) Mountview Frailcare, Joan and Edith are said to have been enormously dedicated to the task of blanket knitting; working over the past few months to ensure that the babies at Heartlands would get to have an extra dose of warmth and love this winter.

“This heartwarming effort bridges the gap between generations, showcasing the kindness and creativity of our elder community members, and bringing joy to the little ones at Heartlands,” said HSFA.

The effort, like so many others we get to share here on Good Things Guy, reminds us that bringing tangible hope to others in times when it is most needed, makes any craft that much more beautiful, any meal that much richer, and any kindness remembered that much more.
