18 Cape Town Emerging artists part of a programme that gives under-resourced artists more opportunities are getting their gallery moment!

Cape Town, South Africa (06 October 2023) — 18 emerging artists in Cape Town are getting the opportunity to be spotlighted in what isn’t just an exciting exhibition for any budding artist, but a visual showcase of how the Mother City has influenced the budding art scene.

A continuation of the Emerging Artists Programme that gives under-resourced artists the opportunity to showcase their work, this year’s exhibition is aptly named ‘Mother City’ as curated by Zimasile Mjokozeli, and sets to visually unpack the connection between creator and environment.

The exhibition opened this week in the City Centre’s Spin Street Gallery; spotlighting the relationship between how the city has influenced artists and in turn, how artists influence their city.

More about the Emerging Artists Programme

As Mayco Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia Van der Ross shares:

“Supporting this arts programme will not only create a platform for artists to show their work, but it is also an opportunity to experience art in its many forms. The Emerging Artists Exhibition means a lot to aspiring and emerging artists as it provides avenues to improve their practice and contributes towards  building unique and diverse cultural expression in Cape Town.

“The programme also aims to support artists in Cape Town with limited resources through opportunities for exposure, skill-development, and networking in the creative industry.”

‘Mother City’ can be viewed and appreciated under Gallery hours, from Tuesday to Friday (10 am to 4 pm) and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
