As long as you are willing to work for your dreams, you can make anything happen – which is what Jerano learned in his Grade 11 year; now, his university dream is becoming a reality.
Jamestown, South Africa (17 February 2021) – Ranyaka, meaning “to pursue” is an organisation that works to uplift communities by creating opportunities for towns and their municipalities to work together. Their goal is to address socio-economic issues at the source.
It was through a project that the organisation met Jerano Williams from Grondves Farm, just outside Jamestown. Jerano was in Grade 11 at the time and expressed his dream of studying at Stellenbosch University and becoming a proud Matie.
Unfortunately, Jerano’s marks were not good, and it would mean some extra hard work to get him on par with other university hopefuls. Thankfully the team believed in his abilities and decided to invest in his dream.
“A call was put out on Facebook to anyone who would be able to assist in financially contributing toward tutoring sessions for Jerano, and the community came together to help. With the help of the amazing tutors at Abakus Math and Science Enrichment, Jerano was able to increase his marks and pass his senior certificate with flying colours!”
Jerano is proof that as long as you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything. He completed his bridging course, the SchiMathUS programme at Stellenbosch University and will now go on to completing his BSC Degree in Agriculture.
“The road ahead is still a difficult one, funding still needs to be secured and other challenges need to be overcome, but we are so proud of what Jerano has achieved in these 3 years.” – Amy Leveldal, Stakeholder and Relationship Manager at Ranyaka
