A Fairy Godmother has appeared at UWC and is helping students fund university-related expenses such as books and other necessary items.

A Fairy Godmother has popped up at the University of the Western Cape to help lighten the load for students in need. This fairytale creature has been accepting donations from the public and is using them to fund small university-related expenses.

“[The page] seeks to assist students at the University of the Western Cape with relatively small university-related expenses, such as travel fare, books, and groceries. In less than a year we have fulfilled over 700 student requests, and deposited more than R300 000 directly into students’ own bank accounts. But there are always more requests to meet!” – UWC Fairy Godmother (FG)

A recent example of a wish being granted, a student needed money to print out study materials for an exam. She approached the FG and her wish was granted. All she asked for was R160.00, to many, that doesn’t seem like much but to a struggling student, its meals and transport money or study materials.

“DEAR MOTHER! Hope you well. I received the payment and made the copies today. I humbly thank you and the funder for making studying for the upcoming exams so easy! I can now use the lecture slides, the textbook and my handwritten notes which I took in class to prepare well for my exams. Thank you the funder who made it possible.

Once again Thank You so Very Much Funder and Dear Mother for helping me and many other students. I appreciate it and I’m so grateful.

May the Lord bless you in abundance!”

This Fairy Godmother only focuses on UWC students and funds are not allocated to registration fees. For more information on becoming a funder or making a wish contact the Facebook page here.
