After the news broke that Sir Michael Gambon passed away, Dumbledore fans (the famed fiction character Gambon brought to life and shared was merely himself in a beard and robe) are paying their respects in the most magical way:

Global (29 September 2023) — When the recent news broke that actor Sir Michael Gambon had passed away at 82 years old, a great sense of loss was felt by his many fans around the world.

For Harry Potter fans, condolences for Gambon (who brought one of fiction’s most famed characters to life through his portrayal of Albus Dumbledore) couldn’t be shared in words alone. As such, they are doing something that’s nothing short of magical, to honour the actor (and wizard) that was.

The ‘Wands Up for Dumbledore’ tribute has seen fans from all over the world raise their wands as a special goodbye to Gambon.

This is especially significant considering Gambon saw much of himself in his most famous character, who once shared that he was only playing himself in a robe and stuck-on beard.

From individuals raising their wands at home to masses gathered outside ‘Hogwarts’ in Florida’s Universal Studios, people have united in light and respect.

Gambon was knighted for his dedication to the arts in the late 90s after a rich career spanning theatre and screens. He passed away after ‘a bout of pneumonia’ as shared by his family per multiple sources.

Potter Cast Share Tributes:

“Kind kind kind Michael Gambon. You never took it too seriously but somehow delivered the most serious moments with all the gravitas. Thank you for showing us what it looks like to wear greatness lightly. We will miss you,” wrote Emma Watson.

“So sad to hear about Michael. He brought so much warmth and mischief to every day on set. He captivated me as a kid and became a personal role model of mine for finding the fun and eccentricities in life,” shared Rupert Grint.
