A cat who took adventuring to new heights a little too far found itself in a scary situation atop an electricity pole. After a lot of anxiety for the community below who were out of reach, firefighters stepped in for an epic rescue!

Voorbrug, South Africa (18 July, 2023) — A fluffy white explorer took adventuring to a new mighty height recently after it found itself stuck atop a tall pole in Voorbrug, Cape Town.

The cat had climbed all the way to the top, leaving its owner and community down below anxious as to how the cat would get down since there was very little they could do to help many metres below.

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA was called for help and trainee inspector Clodeen Arnolds was soon on the case. However, even with all the SPCA’s animal-saving superpowers, this mission needed some backup.

As the Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s Belinda Abraham tells Good Things Guy, the cat was perched on top of a pole precariously close to the electricity cables, making the mission concerning for both helpers and the fluffy explorer.

After some time executing expert balance, the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Department joined the rescue mission.

With the help of the fire truck’s aerial platform, the cat who was undoubtedly terrified at that point soon exchanged the striking height for the comfort of Inspector Clodeen’s arms.

“When she [reached the cat], there was a heart-warming roar from the crowd which reminded us not only of the incredible power of compassion, but also that we are not alone in believing that every life, no matter how small, holds immeasurable value,” shares Belinda.

Belinda adds:

“We extend our thanks to Cape Town Fire and Rescue for their incredible response and their pivotal role in saving the life of an animal in distress.   We thank the Voorbrug community too for their encouragement and support.  They really made us feel like heroes.  The cat is safely back with her owner.”
