World Water Day is the 22nd of March and South African learners will benefit from R4.5 Million in aid of water security; this includes the installation of water tanks and washing stations at schools.

South Africa (04 March 2022) – World Water Day is on the 22nd of March each year. The United Nations designated the day to highlight the importance of fresh water. The day is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources around the world.

This World Water Day, South African children will get a boost at school thanks to the donation of R4.5 million from the MySchool, MyPlanet, MyVillage loyalty card and Woolies Water Fund.

So far this they have installed 132 tanks and more than 560 handwashing at schools across four provinces. The financial donation is going to go towards more water tanks, hand washing stations, educational programmes and drilling boreholes. Most of these efforts will be focussed in the Eastern Cape, where the drought is affecting people the hardest.

According to MySchool, two billion people live without access to safe drinking water around the world. The projects being run by MySchool don’t only focus on providing hydration, they focus on combatting wastage. There are many ways water can be wasted and alien plants are the worst offenders. To keep SA’s water resources protected, teams have been employed to remove and manage alien vegetation.

You can help by simply adding the Woolies Water Fund as a beneficiary on your MySchool card.
