Play It Forward Jozi received a large donation of sports balls and with the help of some helpful teens, delivered them to a community on the Wild Coast.
Wild Coast, South Africa (24 August 2023) – Hundreds of children and teens along the Wild Coast will now be able to play their favourite sports, such as netball, soccer and volleyball, thanks to the donation of sports balls from Play It Forward Jozi and their donors.
Kingsmead College and Karen Landi donated several bags filled with sports balls in early August to Play It Forward Jozi. Between several teens, all the balls were pumped up and transported to the Wild Coast last week.
The Viljoen family drove up to the Wild Coast and while there, met up with the local sports club to hand over the donation.
“All the kit was handed to the sport club organizer who will use them for all the games. Half the balls were given to the community teams and the other half are being kept for the tournament games.
Thanks you for make the biggest difference! Sport truly unites
An hour later they are still playing – total language barrier but they continue to play, laugh and have the best time! Cannot thank you enough x” – Philippa Viljoen
About Play It Forward Jozi
“Play It Forward” is a student-founded organisation collecting sporting equipment for underprivileged children and teens. Ross teamed up with his school friends in 2018 to make a difference in underprivileged communities when he was in primary school. They set up Play It Forward Jozi to make a difference in South Africa.
The boys decided to collect second-hand sporting equipment that could be sent to underprivileged children, schools and sporting clubs. They started collecting takkies and sports shoes, racquets, bats, hockey sticks, golf clubs, gloves and balls.
Over the years, they have kitted out many teams, including Central Joburg Blind Cricket, Alexandra Hub Cricket Club, and many more! Ross’s mother, Alison Garrett, has played a vital role in managing where the donations go, connecting the collections with the people who need them most.
The organisation continues to collect sporting goods that are gathering dust in people’s garages and bedrooms.
They welcome every kind of sporting good but sometimes they also have specific requests from teams or individuals. If you have anything to donate, you can email Alison here or check out the Play It Forward Jozi Facebook page here.
