Thanks to helpful children (AKA, Lupin’s angels) who were in the right place at the right time, Lupin, the missing dog, was not just saved from a snare trap but also reunited with the family he disappeared from after a car accident!

Western Cape, South Africa (05 April 2024) — Thanks to helpful children who happened to be in the right place at the right time and were willing to put on their hero capes, Lupin, the missing dog, has found his way back to his family!

Last month, Lupin and his family were in the car along the N2 when they were involved in a car accident. During the incident, the four-legged family member was tragically thrown from the car, and likely ran off in fear.

Desperate to be reunited with their dearest pooch, Lupin’s family shared the news of his disappearance, to which animal heroes like the staff at Grabouw Animal Welfare Society happily offered their help with the search.

Despite helpful boots on the ground and a drone search on Oudebrug road, Lupin’s location remained a mystery.

Although, not for long!

In an unanticipated moment of heroism a few days later, a group of children playing in a forest heard an animal’s cry, and went to go investigate. Upon further inspection, the children discovered a brown dog trapped in a snare.

Recognising him from the missing poster the Grabouw Animal Welfare Society shared, the kids wasted no time in getting in touch with his mom—Vanessa Johnstone Duff.

The Grabouw Animal Welfare society was then asked by Vanessa to see if the dog in the forest was in fact, Mr Lupin, and in a true happy twist of fate, it was.

Thanks to these children who did not leave an animal in distress and wanted to help in reuniting the dog with his family, Lupin was rescued from the snare trap, and soon found himself back in his mom’s arms in a moment enough to make even the toughest among us tear up.
