Yanga Sobetwa Spirit

The winner of the Idols SA 2018 is WOWing the globe with her version of Béyonce’s “Spirit”!

South Africa – 2018 Idols winner Yanga Sobetwa is making waves globally with her version of Béyonce’s “Spirit”.

Talk about a girl with a plan! Season 14’s youngest contestant stepped into the Cape Town Audition room with the single-minded purpose of leaving with a Golden Ticket. Not only did she succeed in scoring a yes from all four Judges, but she went on to win the entire season, and now she is going viral globally with her version of Béyonce’s new song.

“Spirit” is included in The Lion King (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), which was released with the remake of 1994 The Lion King movie. The track was also included in The Lion King: The Gift, an album curated by Beyoncé which is inspired by The Lion King remake.

The uplifting song, “Spirit” is Beyoncé’s official descent into lioness stardom. On the track, she sings of the approaching greatness of a future leader as well as the importance of resiliency and South Africa’s Sobetwa is giving us all the feels with her version.

The winner of Idols SA also recently released her debut album called Promised Land last month.

“I released the title track Promised Land before my album, and people were head over heels in love with it. I knew they’d appreciate the album. It taps into feelings people don’t want to talk about and, as much as the songs are fun, they also speak to people. Fans who’ve already heard it love it, and those who haven’t should get it.”
