youth potential

Youth Potential South Africa is a non-profit that helps the rural children of Eastern Cape to unlock their potential and discover their individual personalities.

South Africa (23 March 2017) – There is a massive amount of potential in the youth of our country. We are a country of bountiful people, creative, colourful and beautifully talented people, and so it’s only natural that our youth are equally talented and colourful young people.

Youth Potential South Africa (YOUPSA) is an educational project based in the rural Eastern Cape that focuses on socially disadvantaged and marginalised youth. It aims to enhance the youths’ natural talents and skills for their personal development and to become mature and positively contributing members of their societies.

“Children are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded” – Jess Lair

The focus is on building a generation of young people and leaders who are well educated, socially and ethically aware, committed to human rights and global environmental sustainability and who will develop personal responsibility in these areas.

The YOUPSA organisation has a few programmes that they run with various schools in the rural areas of the Eastern Cape.

‘Igniting the Inner Spark’ is a programme that creates a group environment where young people are comfortable with and supportive towards each other. It helps break down barriers and help people step into an accepting and interactive community. This creates a great way for children to explore their own potential.

The group engages in theatre, games, art, reflection, and mindfulness activities based around a variety of themes such as healthy living, leadership and care for the environment.

They also help the children to overcome their stress and anger, giving them the tools to constructively work through their feelings healthily.

Everybody needs the skills to keep their mind free from stress and anger. In this programme participants learn uniquely effective techniques and strategies to identify, understand and overcome their own stress prompters and anger. Their ability to handle conflict, build resilience and improve relationships is powerfully awakened.
