Two Zimbabwean orphans were taken on a trip of a lifetime, they got to visit South Africa for an Expo in Pretoria. While here they got new clothes and more!
The orphans attend Somakwilili Primary School in the Nkayi district of Matabeleland, Zimbabwe. The school was the inspiration behind the trip.
It all started when Matthew Thompson heard about the primary school and how there were only 5 teachers to help all the children. The worst of it all was there is zero access to running water. Matthew works with Mopane Foundation International, a UK based charity. He then set up a GoFundMe to help with building a borehole.
Our ambitious target is to raise about $10,000 to install a borehole and solar pump with tanks, at the school. This will allow the children to have clean water on their doorstep.
It will also allow the school to begin a crop growing programme which will hopefully mean the kids get a nutritious meal daily… Many kids only eat a proper meal ONCE a week, and are prone to illness due to the lack of clean water.
Two orphans were chosen to attend the expo with the charity. While in South Africa, the kids had the opportunity to go on a massive clothing shop, buying all the clothes they would need for a long while. They also had their faces painted for the first time and got to share information about their Birth Certificate project.
These children got to experience something they never could have dreamed. A trip outside their remote village. It is so heartwarming to hear about.
It is very humbling to know that there are still some very kindhearted human beings in existence who would do anything for others knowing too well they will never be repaid for their efforts
