bodyboarder

Iain Campbell started his career nearly 14 years ago and has had a passion for competing on the World Tour circuit, he is currently on top of the leaderboard.

Iain Campbell is originally from Durban and started his bodyboarding career over 14 years ago. At just 26 he is on top of the leaderboard for the Association of Professional Bodyboarders Tour. Currently sitting on 18500, he recently came second at the Hawaii Pipeline (if you have ever seen Blue Crush, you will know the size of those waves) and landed a win at the Sintra Pro in Portugal.

Early on in life, Iain knew he had a love for the ocean and began out as a lifesaver, he ventured into water polo before turning his sights to being a bodyboarder. Desperate to compete internationally he travelled to the Canary Islands off the Northwestern coast of Africa and worked from there to join the World Tour Circuit.

His win in Portugal was met with ups and downs due to the changing weather. During the event, Iain received the only 10-point ride of the competition which pushed him through to the semi-finals.

“I knew that the final against Uri Valadao would be tough, but I was so hungry to get the win. It was a head-to-head battle throughout, with a tied score in the early stages needing to be broken on a good ride on a third wave. A score of 8 is what finally did it! And I was able to take the title in the Sintra Pro for the first time, after making the final in the event for three consecutive years! What a feeling!”

“Finally got the “monkey off my back” with a win at Sintra, Praia Grande, Portugal… This result makes it a run of 5 out of 5 podium finishes for this year to date, with a rewarding win to top it all this past weekend.” – Iain Campbell

You can watch him in action below, this clip is from his 2-month stay on the North Shore of Oahu.
